How Do We Know We're Doing It Right: & Other Essays on Modern Life By Pandora Sykes

It’s Pandora’s world - and we’re just living in it. The regular columnist & contributing editor for Elle AND host of the the #1 iTunes current affairs podcast The High Low released her debut book during lockdown and its everything we expected it to be and more.

The book that debuted as the Sunday Times Best Seller in July is a collection of essays that tackle all the worries and anxieties swirling around a millennial’s brain today.

Lucy Pavia, from the Evening Standard describes how listeners of Pandora’s podcast will be delighted that ‘in book format, her intellectual curiosity is given more room to breathe.’

Answering the modern day dilemmas that stem from wellness, fast fashion, binge-watch culture and every other aspect of our lives.

Pandora calls herself, explaining  ‘Many of the anxieties I write about are, somewhat inevitably, middle-class.’ But in a world growing darker and darker by the day, sometimes the small stuff is all we have the strength to sweat about.

The chapters throughout remain well researched; including many references, interviews, and quotes. Pandora herself remains predominantly neutral throughout allowing the collected material to speak for itself - as would be expected from a journalist of her calibre.

In one particular standout titled 'Get The Look’ Pandora reflects on her personal experience and questions if as a former fashion editor with a large instagram following she could be part of the problem.

Pandora’s debut easily captures the zeitgeist of the current generation whilst being beautifully written and thought provoking from beginning to end.

Described by Stylist as ‘Refreshing, thoughtful and considered.’ Every person who feels alone in their thoughts of day to day life should pick this inclusive novel up.
